    Looking to cop new blades . . . Bigger wheel/frame sizing questions . . .

I have been skating size 6.5 Salomons with small 50/50 frames, 54mm/90a Eulogy wheels FLAT . . . for about the last 10+ years. The plastic is finally starting to deteriorate, and I'm really just looking for that fresh, new blade feel.

I'm probably going to go with the Roces/Valo boot, because that is the only hardboot skate that I find pleasing to look at and compact. As far as the boot-only, is there any difference between the Roces and Valo models? Also, I'm hoping that they don't run big and a size 7 will fit me without too much room . . . Maybe someone has experience with this?

For the frames/wheels, I would like to step it up to a bigger wheel flat setup, now that there's frames on the market that are specifically adapted just for that. I'm thinking about going with the GC Mega frames (the smaller 6-11 size), and I hope they won't be too big or out of line with the groove on a size 7 M12 boot. I'd liked to try out a 60mm wheel setup. I have noticed that some of the 59-64mm wheels have a more rounded profiles than others . . . Is this better? For someone who has been skating 54mm/90a flat for 10+ years, is 60mm too big of a jump in size or not enough? Should I be cautious and find a good 59mm wheel or go all out and get the 64mm's? I'm guessing that 60mm would be a good fit, but what is the best wheel out there right now in that size? (Eulogy doesn't make bigger than 58mm, unfortunately.)

Thanks for reading my text-wall, and thanks for any information you all can give because we all know that it's tough trying to find a new setup when there's no place (that's a feasible distance) to try them on.

    Peace.

Basically, I want to be able to cruise around skateparks with ease and finesse, but still do backslides on ledges.

Shit, I didn't even know anyone was still moderating this forum. You know damn well that I've been on Be-mag since it's inception and that if I had wanted to post this in the "Hardware" section, surely, I'd have the know-how to do so. But this board is so fucking dead that people hardly look at "General Gossip", let alone any of the other sub-forums. I posted in "General Gossip", purposely, in the hope that someone might actually read and and respond.

I must have offended your sense of order, dick.

You’d probably like symmetric frames. 60mm flat

A lot of questions there, but all I know is that I've been years skating 55-58 mm wheels flat and anti rocker. And recently I've put on some GC Mega's on my Salomons with flat Go Project 65mm wheels and it's the most fun I've had in a long time!

The new white m12's are a harder material than the V13's. How much harder they haven't said, but from what I've heard from people skating them it seems to be accurate. The new whites also have a new Roces liner that is a really good stock liner, better than any other stock liner on the market. For frames with big wheels I'm not sure what would work for that small of a skate. You would probably be best off getting some featherlight 3's and putting the biggest size those can take flat. But, I'm sure someone closer to that size would know more about that than me.

Dont use featherlights for flat. Also if you do decide to go with megas use at least 62 mm wheels. Off the top of my head, if I were to put together a 60mm+ flat setup on a 6-7 m12 boot I would probably go with the small symmetrics frames. (They are $teep though)

I am riding a size 6US salomon and 7US valo. The salomons fit absolutely perfect, and the Valos are almost too small for me. for some reason, putting the insole on the outside of the liner is what makes it a perfect fit.

Valo frames are a cheap, great alternative for a flat set up as well. They were the frames that converted me to riding flat. I rode them w 59mm and didn't have too many issues.

Didn't know they made small symmetrics. I'd go with those for sure.

So, from what I am understanding . . . GC Mega frames would be too big to fit a size 7 M12 boot, or would they just look awkwardly big?

I thought that Mega's were the best option available right now to skate flat with bigger wheels and still be able to do groove-tricks (of course, with mad finesse and sit-down, flat style) . . . What is a better or equivalent option that would fit such a small boot?

I have heard about Symmetrics but I don't know much about them. I'll have to do some research. Any other suggestions/reviews?

EDIT: Upon further examination, it seems like the Symmetrics in the small size might just be the perfect choice, especially considering they come with a setup of 8 60mm wheels & bearings to offset the high cost.

Megas or symmetrics with 60's or K2frames with 60's flat.

The symmetrics wheels and bearings are amazing. Last really long.

if you have a skinny foot , cop some of the last valos for cheap.

I'm on 62mm flat on Roces M12s on the K2 frames. I think you'd like 60/62mm flat - it's noticeably faster than 56/57 flat and I've not struggled on groove tricks. I think you should look at Megas, Symmetrics or the K2 frames. All good options, but the Megas are a bit taller.

I'm enjoying this setup SO much for keeping speed - haven't experienced this kind of speed in...ever really on anti-rocker or smaller flat setups.

I bet the hardware forum gets almost as much traffic as the general board TBH and it keeps interesting hardware threads on topic and informative.

Check amazon for the k2 frames - I've seen them on there for as low as £18 which is absolutely insane.

I would not agree due to this simple test:

After whichever Moderator moved my post from General Gossip to Hardware, I waited for their different-time-zone-ass to go to sleep and then re-posted my thread in General Gossip. The thread that had been moved by a Mod had been sitting in the Hardware sub-forum all day with 3 glib responses, while the re-post in General Gossip had 5+ in-depth responses within a few hours. Unfortunately, all that good information was deleted by the salty Mod when he woke up and realized my ploy. This shit is funny to me.

                                      Thanks for the input, everyone.

I'm now on small symetrics on small thems with some 65 Joe Wheels. Im surprised how good they lock with the small grooove and i havent had problems with groove tricks so far..

If i will have some trouble, maybe when the groove gets bigger, i always could go back to a smaller wheel... so far so good!

Like some people said they slide like ice..

Ironically, Quark does (well, did...) not give a fuck about blade hardware and having a dedicated hardware forum.
I on the other hand do, and i like to keep threads concerning blade tech stuff in their own place, away from general gossip.

Have fun experimenting with new setups.
My advice would be to buy anything and everything you're curious about.
If you don't like it you can always sell it in the blade trade groups on FB, or here.

Feels nice man. Like I'm a millionaire or something.

Just used them twice, once on a carbon free 2016 setup. And as I was scared for my ankles I wanted a higher cuff skate so I waited for the Them boot.
Last session was interesting with the Them setup though.
Balance is hard to find. As you are higher you need to bend way more for groove grinds and top sides. (Maybe the thems where not the right choice)
Riding these frames makes you realize how good Antony Pottier is. He is definitely a beast.

I'll try to take some pictures next session and do a 'proper review'.

It sounds like you're trying to say "they're not good".

Thems look way too unsupportive for a high frame - same way Roces boots seem unable to handle anything more an maybe 72mm flat. I guess that's why Pottier skates the Sebas - tall and stiff.

Wonder how many Flat frames Pottier is sitting on. Literally seen him and that other Seba guy skating them.
