the iphone does take good video and in good light the photos are good too. It's still a camera, you don't need to have a $5000 dollar camera in your hands to take good photos. I don't know of any better camera apps or video apps. I wish there was one that let you control the shutter speed and iso and whatnot of the camera though.

it works the same as the camera app that comes on the iphone but the auto focus/flash/adjustment works way better.
plus its got lots of filters and other editing tools that you can use before you save it to your camera roll

I'm pretty impressed with the iphone's photos. The only reason I would use a SLR camera would be for the DOF. Just read on techniques if you want to improve, or learn from experience. The later would probably be better.

There are several apps that will help you get the most out of your iphone camera for both videography and photography.

For filmming - Filmic Pro (this app will allow you to manualy lock exposure, focus and white balance plus a range of other features that make filmming that much easier)

For photography - I suggest 645 Pro...this little app allows your camera to output uncompressed TIFF files, allowing for more information when you edit them. Another app I strongly suggest to people shooting photos on the iphone is Snapseed. This app is a cool little editing app and was bought by gogle last year so it is now free!

This makes me want to get an iphone.
