i had the chance to play with an early prototype and its quite nice.

but as any camera it has to prove itself in the field first to make it interesting for paid work.

Sensor is smaller than than micro 4/3 and puts out 2.5k res? That worries me. However the dynamic range they've been showing is reallllly attractive.

the color grade footage looks nice but people ar complaining about details in shadows because of how small the censors are

The body itself looks way simple and attractive. I suppose I need to sack up and buy a Mac though. What is the price range?

I probably wont ever buy it cz I don't want to get into film professionally, or for the monies. I just like making shitty artsy edits.

That's sick. Unfortunately I don't need 2.5k res for the little shit I am doing, but I love the design of the camera and it's possibilities. Why no higher frame rate?

I haven't nerded out enough to know what hte censor can provide. It would be nice to have more control over the picture than the 7d/5d, as well as audio.

The sensor is small but powerful, but 2.5K raw isn't that much bigger than 1080p. And blackmagic has a tendancy to have issues with their first runs of products. I will give them credit for the superflat recording curve, but i'd have to play with footage personally before I give it the full thumbs up.

Personally I don't like the ergonomics of the thing, I think they're following the trend of the DSLR. And that giant touchscreen on the back? Once that thing goes out you have no control, and im sure it's not great in sunlight....

I'm kicking it pretty hard, but until it proves me differently I think they went the wrong direction with this camera. Get a 5D and download a superflat picture style like the Technicolor one. Hasn't done me wrong yet.

It seems to me that most of the criticisms of this cam come from people who aren't quite the intended target market. No, it doesn't have a massive sensor, no it doesn't go to ISO bajillion, yes you will need external power. But it's not meant for bokehsturbation, super-low-light shooting, or run-and-gunning. It's meant for making movies in a controlled environment with the proper peripherals, and the right post-processing. And I bet it'll be fucking awesome for that, and not so great for those other things... but then people will probably find ways to make it work for them for those other things, because it's affordable and can put out such a good image when done right, just like people found ways to make DSLR's work for other stuff.

The sensor is between s16 and GH2 size, as I recall... DOF should be just fine for what it's intended to shoot. Resolutionwise 2.5K is big enough to oversample a really amazing 1080p out of, and/or stabilize from, or crop into. And raw.... well that's worth it all by itself, I imagine.
