thinking about picking up a canon T3i( 600D)

i am thinking about picking it up along with a simple beginner lens.
what kind of combo do you guys think i should get?
i dont know much about DSLR besides been using my buddy's 600d to capture clips for a handful of times. so, any recommendation and /or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you are buying the T3i body only, the kit comes with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm 3.5-5.6 IS II. The IS (image stabilization) would be a benefit for filming, but won't do much for hand held photos unless you are shooting under 1/60 sec. Otherwise, it's a basic kit lens that isn't very good for low light use unless you are shooting more towards the 55mm range at a slow shutter speed for slow moving or still subjects with IS turned on.

There's nothing wrong with the lens, it's actually really useful and good for macro shots.

If you are looking for a better lens to film with, try the wider Canon EF-S 10-22mm 3.5-4.5. There is only a one stop difference between 10mm and 22mm, which is much better than the 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that the 10-22mm does not have internal zoom, which means that the front of the lens extends outwards when you when you cycle through the focal range. This will cause a shadow to be cast on your subject when set at the wide angle of view, 10mm, when using the camera's pop-up flash..

If you're getting it primarily for filming, be aware that you're going to need more than the camera and a lens to get good footage.

The kit lens is ok and for the $100 or whatever extra the kit costs over the body-only it is probably worth getting. After the kit lens I'd look at the 50mm f1.8 and the "Korean" aka "manybrand" f3.5 fisheye, which is sold under various names and supposed focal lengths.

It's sold as the Rokinon 8mm, Vivitar 7mm, Opteka 6.5mm, and a couple other brands. They're all the same thing so just get whichever's cheapest. If you're not looking to buy immediately, Opteka is going to have a version that they make in their factory (in China, not Korea) available in a month or two, and it will be more around $250, and supposedly sharper at larger apertures than the Korean lens.

some people are telling to to drop a few hundred bucks more to get them 60Ds, is it worth the money? since i am such a noob at DSLR, should i just wait or should i just go for it?
will 650D come out next year?

I got my T3i a few months ago and couldnt bee happier. Footage looks real good on the stockie lens. The articulating LCD screen is great for moving glidecam and Handle shots as well. I honestly had no intentions of doing much photographing with it, so it has exceeded any expectations i had for photos. You can find them cheap as hell too.

The t3i is dope man. If you want to get a good fisheye, get the Peleng 8mm. Probably the best lens for dslr filming. It's like the mk1 for dslr's.

The differences between the 60D and 600D have mostly to do with photo rather video. So whether its worth it to you will depend on your photo vs. video priorities. Magic Lantern isn't quite as good on the 600D but I think that will be solved fairly soon. The 60D definitely feels
nicer in the hand, but the 600D has a digital zoom in video that's pretty cool.

Only get the Peleng if you want vignetting, blurry edges, and a ton of flares.

if your willing to drop the extra on the 60D and are serious about using it all the time. then wait and get the 60D. If this is just an interest and not sure about photo/film as a hobby, then Id go with the t3i. Honestly though, I shoot t2i im a hobby photographer and it takes stunning pictures. from the reading ive done, the only benefit for getting a t3i is a slightly better sensor and a swivel arm lcd screen.

Do not listen to this guy. The Peleng fisheye is terrible. The manybrands fisheye destroys it in optical quality.
