So im turning 21 (DSLR FILMING QUESTION)

Im a nikon guy, got a set of nikon lenses so id rather stay with the brand

thinking about getting the D7000, seems to have pretty good features

now do your typical bemag thing and slate this camera to pieces and tell me im a retard for even thinking such thing

but seriously...is this a good purchase? im a big media guy but constantly travelling so i cant afford to take my D60 and XM2(gl2) with me in my hand luggage as it just takes up too much weight....or would you say to maybe look at a panasonic vid cam? id love to use my lenses on my caemra though and i know you can get that attachment

    but yes im babbling on

    let me know be-mag

    much love xxx

Plus will this last me...or will i get this and within the next year they would have come up with a new, better filming format?

Nikon will most likely not improve their video any time within the next year. You won't regret it if you buy it. I love mine.

nice one...it seems pretty up to date video requiements wise, the only thing i see happening is that theyll create a 3d attachment

what setup do you have robert? any rigs or mics?

you got any vids i can see?

I haven't gotten any video equipment yet as I mostly do stills. I'm going to get a cheap shotgun mic soon for filming lines or windy days. I'll try to get some clips next week when I skate.

If you haven't seen this yet:

The D7000 is pretty fuckin' awesome photo-wise, but video-wise it's kinda meh. It's definitely a huge improvement from the D90's video, but it's still not up to par with Canon... but it's usable, especially if you're content with only having 24P.

As for HDSLR vs. small camcorder (soccer-mom steeze Canon HF-S series, Panny TM700, etc), well, that depends on how you want to shoot video, what your space/weight needs are, and how much work/prep you want to put in to get your shots. A camcorder will give you better autofocus, IS, and zooming, and it'll just be easier to use overall. With the right lenses and accessories and a bit of work the HDSLR will get you those "pretty shots" that the camcorder can't touch, as well as just better overall picture quality/resolution/sensitivity/dynamic range/etc.

Personally I think a good combo for me is going to be an HDSLR and a little camcorder. I'm in the middle of getting my DSLR setup going, and I think at some point next year I'll probably pick up a Panasonic TM700, or whatever's out that's better at the time.

the best part about the nikon is, no matter what, you're still going to have better glass than all these Canon fanboiz.

As much as I love my Nikon, I have to admit that there is some amazing Canon glass(most of the L series).

Ah Al you are a hero, and if i were to sell my d60 and all my lenses to switch to canon, what camera would you suggest that is in par with the d7000?

Yea, i was mostly kidding. When i got into it, that was the case, but canon has turned around some of their glass production. But it's always fun to start a flame war.

Deciding to switch will come down to your individual balance of photo to video priorities, and how invested you are in your current system. Photo-wise the equivalent/competitor to the D7000 would be the 7D. Video-wise, even the Rebel T2I would outclass the D7000 in most ways, and the 60D definitely would.

I am a Cannon fan and have a bunch of lenses i have to say when i was looking into buying my camera Nikon and Cannon were pretty much the same now. Sony has some good stuff coming out in the next few months too. To late for Sony for me i spent to much on cannon stuff already so my next camera will be cannon as well.

As far as video if you don't care to much about very high quality then got with a handy cam type i have a Panasonic one and if you raise the settings to best quality you only get like 4 hours of record time on the internal memory but it is very small and vids are really good considering oh and it is less then a pound in weight
