Digi-slave as slave to sigma ex530 super?

im about to order some lighting equipment, and i was wondering if anybody knows if a digi-slave 3000 can be set as a slave to another flash, like the sigma ex530 super, instead of as a slave to the camera?

shooting with a 7d btw, and an impact powersync10 trigger on the sigma.

edit: now looking at vivitar 383 and vivitar sf4000 slave flash

the only two pieces of gear i recognize that your talking about are the 7d and the 530...

I just picked up some cybersyncs, and can't recommend them highly enough. Unless you have enough money to buy ittl pw's, you should just spend the 200 it costs to get cybersyncs and you will be set... done deal... they are awesome

now im looking at the vivitar 383 for my primary and vivitar sf4000 slave flash for supplimental. both have built in optical slave function, does this mean they automatically fire when they sense other flashes firing, or that they'll work as slaves without a trigger setup? if so, any idea what the range is for that?

also, if anyone has flash equipment or canon compatible lenses they're looking to sell, please PM me.

        I would avoid optical slaves....

there are syncing issues, and they won't trigger at certain distances or outside of the trigger flashes line of site

im still getting a radio trigger set, but "does optical slave mean they automatically fire when they sense other flashes firing?"
and do optical slaves need a master slave, or will they simply fire when i take a shot?

I think you're confusing optical slaves with Canon's wireless (infra-red) system.

Optical slave means it has an optical sensor that fires the unit when it "sees" another flash go off. They work fine in a studio situation but most skate photogs stay away from them because they're not reliable outside in sunlight. And they also have to be able to "see" at least one of your other flashes, which isn't always possible (or at least not always desirable) when shooting skate stuff.

Canon's wireless system works via infra-red light (like the remote for your TV) transmitted from the camera body. The body and flash can communicate with each other to determine exposure, if you want (i.e. you're letting the camera's computer handle the flash exposure, vs. doing it manually with an optical or radio trigger). Unfortunately IR systems aren't much more reliable than optical slaves in sunlight, and again the flashes and camera have to be able to "see" each other.

Just spend the money on radio triggers. The Cybersyncs are solid and cheap and PCB has a reputation for great customer service and warranty support.

Cybersyncs are what I'm using and they work great with my vivitar 383, never had a misfire.
i would def opt for them.
